Default oil change

i am posting this not because im upset with the results of what im about to explain, but rather because im curious. one of the first things i bought when i got my car is a chrome screw on exhaust tip. it never made any difference and its been about 6 months. today i got my oil changed (my car is definitely running better). other than this oil change it was probably about 3500 miles since my last one. today after i got my car filled up with full premium synthetic oil, whenever i accelerate i hear a nice deep rumble sound, and it seems like its coming from my tip. is there a reason for this nice not too loud deep rumble that comes when accelerating a lot? i like it, and i think its good, but is it bad? i actually like the not over the top low pitched rumble. what's ur input?

hmm...hope not :-(. i think its a good, and an on-purpose sound. it doesnt continually make the noise, only when im accelerating really fast, usually only from 0-20mph or so, then it goes away completely. is it good or bad? if good, why did it just start directly after my oil change? if bad, still, why did it just start?

Your exhaust 'tip's not going to make much of a difference for you to hear. Its just bling factor like mine

What kind of oil were you using before, weight/name, versus this synthetic oil you are using now?

i have no idea what kind of oil it was before. this is the first time that i have personally went to a place and had the oil changed. would the oil change make that big of a difference? im talking a semi-drastic difference in the sound that it makes when quickly accelerating from 0-20 or 30mph. i hear the normal sound of the engine, but now i hear and slightly feel a deep, low pitched rumble. what is it? caused from better oil maybe? it just seems like something was added or something was done to make it make this sound that i've never heard since ive owned the car

thanks

I can't say that I know of a documented case, but when you change out oil and go to better or just plain new oil, you are bound to get some improvement in performance (though this can depend on the weight of the oil). When I switched from Mobil 1 0W40 to German Castrol 0W30 I noticed a slight difference in the way the vehicle felt under acceleration, much smoother, but I haven't paid attention to the exhaust noise.

yeah i figured that there would be some difference in things like acceleration after i had it changed, however, this noise isn't something that could go unnoticed. it's definitely an easy to hear thing. it sounds unlike anything my car has ever made before. its hard to explain w/o hearing it. like i said previously, my car used to just make the normal engine noise, now i have the engine noise plus a semi-loud (not obnoxious, just kinda perfect) low pitched rumbled when taking off quick from 0. oh well i guess it'll just be something i'll have to live with

if anyone knows anything else about this, please let me know
thanks

You may want to try our old trick to see if it is something with the engine (as opposed to some exhaust leak), and pull the battery cables off and then put them back on. Then start up the vehicle and drive it around and see if there is anything different.

Last week I went to Jamaica for about a week. I come back and my RX started up with a really bad rumble and then would be fine, I did this with the cables and the vehicle doesn't make this 2 to 3 second rumble at the start any more.

Also monitor you fuel milage/MPG. If it had anything to do with a small leak in your exhaust system, it will probably give you poor MPG...
