Hi guys;well I got the Lex back from Toyota this afternoon, they
said the check engine light diagnostic shows that both of the knock
sensors are not putting out any signal. So they are both bad and need to
be replace. But with parts and labor the quoted 900 and something
dollars, they said that the intake manifold needs to be removed to get to the
back side (bank2) knock sensor. I am not about to pay over 500 in labor if i can do them myself. I was looking at threads trying to find any pics but came up short. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

John,
I can confirm to you that if we are talking about the knock sensors, then you do indeed need to remove the intake manifold.
For those of you with a manual, see Volume 2, SF69-71, and the manual confirms it. The actual steps for the removal of the manifold are listed in EM-33 in the same volume and are a few pages long.
You might be confusing this with the A/F or O2 sensors which are also a pain, but much easier to get at.
I don't ever recall someone doing this on an RX300 as a DIY, but I have seen a 1MZFE Sienna DIY with pictures, http://www.findonefindall.com/toyota...ock_sensor.htm and the price for the sensor runs above $100 USD each.

This is going to sound like a stupid question but i looked on the rockauto.com when you purchase them are they both interchangeable so if i buy 2 from there they will work for both senors??? If anyone has heard of where you might go to purchase replacement wire harnesses for the knockl sensors please let me know. Thanks again Lexmex.

Knock sensors are essentially small microphones and normally one won't run into the same problems from using non-OEM as can and does occur with using non-OEM O2 sensors, which can give different results depending on design and materials used.

Had a friend change both knock sensors and was not that hard of a task and paid for both sensors $268 instead of the $900 plus that Toyota quoted me for replacement of them. Thanks for the help
