Default How to remove stuck goo from exhaust pipe

It seems I ran over some plastic product and it has turned into goo. When cold, the things turns into hard plastic and when hot like chewing gum. I tried goof off (when cold) and it did nothing.

The smell is driving me crazy and stinks up the garage. Does any one know of a chemical/cleaner which would remove the plastic. By the way it is on a heat-sheild and not the actual pipe.

Salim,

I don't know of a name brand cleaner offhand that will remove that kind of stuff. Citrus cleaners would be the strongest of the bunch though from personal experience.

My uncle and I use either kerosene/gasoline or mineral spirits to remove really tough stuff, but even then sometimes he has to pull out a pocket knife to peel the stuff off.

I would heat it up and use a putty knife to scrape it. Get as much off as possible than take an old towel and try to wipe it without burning yourself. Maybe the use of oven mitts might be helpful..

A powdered cleanser like Ajax works wonders with chrome and stainless steel.
