With 88,000 miles on my 01 RX300 would there be any reason to change from the Castrol synthetic blend to something else?

I change every 5,000 miles.

Most likely any known brand of oil is OK as long as you change it often. If you are looking for longer intervals then a higher grade and even synthetic might be a better bet.

whatever synthetic is on sale since there is no longer a reason to run Mobil 1 exclusively like I used to. Change every 6 monthes.

They sell the synthetics at better prices nowadays. Good for the environment, too. Dino oil will slowly fade away.

And the blends are becoming more popular.

96K and still on Mobil1 - 5W30 and thus far, no issues with leaking, sludge, or anything. Change anywhere between 3-4K. I've same for my '92 Integra with 220K, but that car burns about 1/2 qt. every 3000 mile highway.

I've been using German Castrol for the past few oil changes but I will switch to Valvoline Synpower 5w-30 on my next oil change due to good reviews and availability here in the 5 quart jugs.

I will be moving back to the German Castrol next week, as the Redline 10W40 didn't pan out (but might give Redline another try at a W30).

I also used the bigger HP-2009 filter. I had one of the HP-1002 filters the last time around. I had used a Liqui Moly Engine Flush when I changed out the oil on Friday. There was a bit of crud in there, but glad it's free and clean now.

Hey, I'm glad I found this forum!

I've taken over Dad's 2003 RX300, 102,000 kms = 63,380 miles. Warranty is done, so I'm attempting to do oil change, air filter, and all maintenance from here on. Since its so expensive at the dealer. I live in Canada. Any opinions for Shell Formula 5W30? Its on sale at Costco, 12X946ml for $19.99, so $1.67CAD = $1.64US each.

Thanks!
