RX300 transmission advise - help!!
I have a 2001 rx300 with 92,000 miles and the transmission needs replacing. I just paid $600 for a new timing belt and wanted to keep it several more years. I travel a lot w/ my job
Any advise on what I should do - is this the beginning of a money pit?
1. trade it in?
2. pay $5000 to have it repaired - what will break next

The trani in the Rx is common to lots of toyota vehicles.
I would get a second opinion on repair cost from competent local Toyota Dealership..
I lucked out in that the new dealership near my house happened to have one of the top techs in Canada working their who did my overhaul for $3800 CAD, and honestly the car shifts nicer today than it ever did...
Shop around, however, I would stay with Toyota....
A friend recently got a quote from Mazda to rebuild his MPV trani and dealer wanted $5600, whereas the highly regarded local trani place did it for $2800
annahlee,
the transmission in your car is the most expensive component to fix....
Just curious but did they ever indicate why the trani failed or needs replacing and futhermore have you had all your service done at the dealer?
If your paying $600 for the timing belt, sounds like your a diehard Lexus customer...
This may be a longshot, but due to my loyalty to the brand (previous service record), Lexus honoured re-embursing me 50% of the cost of my trani overhaul... How bad is that?
