I actually have a really stubby 1/4 in. Phillips bit that I ground down to only the Phillips and enough of the hex to hold in the ratcheting box for those REALLY tight places. A sharp #1 will actually hold quite well on an angle where a #2 will want to slip if the screw is not excessively tight.
I've tried the stubby Phillips screwdriver but it won't reach the screw head. There is very little room between the two hot water pipes in front of it. There's hardly 3/4" clearance between the pipes and the screw head and there is no room between the two pipes for anything but a slim screwdriver to go through. The total length of the screwdriver cannot exceed 3.25" to get in there. I'm going to try the Ace offset screwdriver next and if that doesn't work then I'll buy this set from Amazon.

What I don't get is why is hot water running through the aluminum pipes and heating core all the time. It should only be routed here if heating is selected.

Or this

I have the set similar to ACE but that one does not allow me to keep enough downward pressure to engage the Phillips head. HF one allows me to push the head down with one hand and use the second to do the ratchet action.

I was able to do it with a regular stubby. To get the screw back in, I had to wrap scotch tape around the screw head with the screwdriver in it. Once the screw was started, I could pull the screwdriver off, remove the scotch tape and finish screwing it in.
