AWD is the choice. handling is much better especially rainy days. Change my auto trans fluid and gear oil every 7,000km to 10,000km whenever i change the engine lube. tranni still working well now. mine is year 98 version. but now and then do get some minor problems here and there as the age is catching up. love the car!!

thanks. just trying to get an idea of the mileage/driving conditions rx/harrier owners who are not experiencing any issues.
my dealer is doing drain/fill only of our trans fluid every 20k kms. i try to check it as much as a can and it's always clean and pink like it should be... but i'm not sure if that tells me anything.

well, it better to be pink than other colours. actually driving style also determines the life span of tranni. always be gentle to tranni and wait for vehicle to stop during reverse before engaging 'D" helps a lot (my mechanic's advice). Drive smoothly and tranni will last longer. My driving condition is in the city so there are lots of stop and go. t4, i choose no to be stingy with the tranni fluid. Change filter once. Havent flush before. Tranni fluid always in pristine condition if change regularly.

i fret constantly about the trans after reading about the misfortunes of others here. we often have 4-5 people in the car, stuck in city traffic, and we live in an area where there is a lot of uphill driving, so being gentle is often not possible... and my dealer continues to deny ever getting an rx in with trans failure. however another local listmember who goes to a different dealer did have his die on him and that dealer installed a rebuilt trans i think at the owner's expense or at some sort of reduced cost because the owner just fell outisde of the warranty

your normal load is ok bro. the car should have no problem coping with that load. actually when you warm up the car, you can try shifting the paddle to all the gear position for 2 to 3 secs in each position before starting the journey in the morning and you'll notice that the ride and gear changing is smoother. But always engage the gear only when idling RPM falls below 1000 when warming up the car. Temperature shld b about 40% of total and it's the best time to start the journey. Again, it's my mechanic's advice. Have tried it and i think it works.
My brother has an audi A6 yr 1999. Rebuilt the tranni 2 twice in the last 3 years. Car in in the garage more than on the road Had just received the ABS pump from Germany tht we ordered last month. Compare with other marque, i think RX is still ok.

yes the temperature range.... our lousy fall/winter weather means our warmest is around 9'c/48'f, so it could mean forever for me to wait for the rpms to drop under 1k rpms or the engine temps to rise... it takes at least 5 minutes of city driving before the temp gauge hits the 40% mark. i usually grit my teeth and make sure my foot is hard down on the brake pedal as i shift from park to drive pulling out of the garage when the engine is still cold because i get a pretty good jerk out of the transmission.
