so i had this fixed in april 08. its starting to drip again and the warranty on the service only lasted 1 year/12,000 miles. brought it in and they want another $1200! is there anyway of calling 1-800-25-lexus and getting some good will deal?!? having this happen every 1.5 years is going to be costly!

^ The repair was done by the shop and Lexus corp has little to do with it.

The other thing is that at times you can ask the manufacturer to eat up the failing part cost and you cover the labor. In this case it is mostly labor.

Try again politely and see if the shop will give you a break ... I would certainly advice against ranting and raving and threatening to go to Lexus ( it would not help imho).

I wonder if they cleaned the CS where the seal rides. When I did my DIL's, I was surprised at the groove it had cut in the CS. It had also deposited that cinder hard baked crap on the CS right up to the edge of the seal. I used a fine emery paper and cleaned and polished the CS and after 37k mi. and over 3 years there is no sign of a leak, and it was bad before. I think I would invest in some Auto-RX and see if that can clean up and revitalize the seal. I can tell you it definitely shouldn't have happened. If you decide to have it replaced eventually, I wouldn't go back to them, after they've treated you like a slot machine that is guaranteed to pay off.

Notwithstanding the 12 month warranty, a $1200 seal replacement shouldn't leak after only one year. They clearly didn't do the job properly the first time. I would go back and tell them how unhappy you are with their service work and you think that they should cover at least the labor on the re-do. If they don't, I would call your local TV station "investigative reporter" and send a letter of total dissatisfaction to the Dealership general manager (copied to Lexus Corporate). This will be burning your bridges but it sounds like you may have nothing to loose. And Lexus do have a service performance scoring system that they pile back on the dealership when they get complaints.
