did 2001 RX300's (and GS300's)factory alarm system
have glass breakage sensor?
for example, if someone breaks the door
window with a fist(or a hammer), is the
alarm supposed to start honking?
Thanks!
P.S. please don't ask me why I'm asking about glass breakage on both GS300 and RX300...

Glass breakage sensors are prone to trigger false alarms, thus are seldom found on OEM systems. My home is about a mile from the end of a major runway and passing aircraft used to set off my glass breakage alarms until I had them disabled. Loud exhausts, or any sharp, percussive noises tend to make your alarm more nuisance than protection - and will soon desensitize your neighbors to the extent that they ignore it when activated.

Actually it is almost imposible to break tempered glass with an average hammer, you will beleive me only if you try it. I have seen a girl doing it to her boyfriend's car in Houston. She hit the glass 20-30 times but did not break it. The easiest way to break it is to smash it with used spark plugs. Are you in New York or something?

Last time I tried to break a car window was on my new '67 Mustang. I locked the keys in the car during a fight with my financee and wanted to leave ASAP. Grabbed a brick to smash a vent window and after three mighty swings, broke the brick. (Finally got in by pulling the dipstick and bending it to fish the door lock). It takes a heckuva wallop to break safety glass - unless you strike it with something very hard and sharp. A punch works nicely. I've heard that "ninja rocks" work too - but don't think I'll try . . .

I never thought about that in using the tranny dipstick to fetch the lock. Good idea.
