2 x Front Strut Bearings

Rear:
2 x Rear Struts (KYB GR2)
2 x Rear Spring Insulators
2 x Rear Strut Bumpers

Total is around $700 which includes shipping. I am getting Struts from tirerack, which seems to have the best price.
I think that is about right. Who is gonna install it?

Just be careful when removing the spring, they sell spring compressors at harbor freight tools. When installing the struts be very conscious of the flat spot on the end of the strut rod, it has to be positioned correctly in the upper mount or you will not be correctly torqueing the locknut. then you will have a knocking noise. When you dissasemble the strut you will see what i mean. good luck.

by the way the KYB shocks are great, I bought the upper strut mounts at NAPA autoparts. They have two listings, one without the bearing and one with. Funny thing with the bearing was cheaper. go figure.

Personally, I am not replacing strut mounts, just bearings, seats, bumpers and lower insulators. And I don't trust aftermarket bearings.
Anyway what are some of benefits of replacing strut mounts?

Default How can I tell before RX300 surgery?

I saw you final parts list. Is this all required for strut replacement? I have no noise. Just mushy ride. Brought RX300 at 70K kids put 15K on it .

Can't afford to take it apart and then find I need additional stuff. 1day job becomes a week.

What did you find out?

The rubber in the strut mounts shrinks, allowing the shock to knock around. by the way I am talking about the upper strut mount.

Interesting. I wonder if I should have ordered the upper mount as well. Man, a simple shock change is turning into a complete overhaul.

Some aftermarket strut mounts include upper spring insulator (the rubber stuff). I don't think you need new strut mounts.

Cool. So have you started the install yet? I'll probalby do it next or the weekend after next. My struts have arrived couple of days ago. Still waiting for the other parts + the manual. Tirerack rocks by the way. I ordered the struts Monday afternoon, and I got them Wednesday morning. All for $25 worth of shipping for 4 struts. Can't beat that.

Not yet. I was really busy for the last 10 days. I will do struts and fuel filters next weekend.

Thomas, the Repair Manual shows a SST which holds the mount so you can torque the locknut. Is the strut tower keyed to the strut mount? How could you use the flat spot, even if it is positioned correctly? Looks like it would be impossible to get an open-ended wrench on it from above or below? I'm sure it will become clear when I take it apart but I am hoping you will give me a couple tips. Thanks.
