Default TRansmission failure - we can do something

Hello everyone, I've been using this website for a few years now and have read about the many transmission failures. I experienced one at 105K on a 2001 AWD. These are costly repairs (mine was almost $3K) I ran accross this website below where we can file safety complaints about this:

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

I urge everyone who has had a transmission failure to file a claim. I just did it over the phone (you can also do it online) and it only took 10 minutes. The more claims we file, the better chance that they investigate and maybe force a recall or some type of reparation. I asked the agent who I spoke to how many of these claims have been made on the RX300 and she said there were only 6. I know there are alot of you out there that are as mad as I am that a vehicle that costs over $40K brand new has a Camry transmission that cannot handle the load of an SUV, so I urge you to take the time and file a complaint. Thanks.

It is not clear how to file it:

Please describe
(1) events leading up to the failure,
(2) failure and its consequences, and
(3) what was done to correct the failure; i.e, parts repaired or replaced (and if old part is available)

We actually had people before in this forum file complaints with them regarding the transmission. I appreciate your update on this.

http://transtec.com/selector_guide/Lexus.htm

Compare the above for U140E (FWD) and U140F (AWD) and you will indeed note what tmuti13 mentioned.

A few years ago I went for an alignment at a Toyota dealer here and the guy was remarking how similar the trannies looked.

I am still amazed at the numbers, When I filed two years ago there were over 12 complaints, how come it changed to a lower number? I have told everyone on this site and LOC site to file with the NHTSB and I have over thirty emails from people with failures which I have asked to file a complaint. People just arent following through or the system is broke.

File it in a safety manner, ie you broke down a two lane road and feared for your life. Describe the failure and comment that the dealership has no idea of what failed because they send the trannies to a tranny clearing house.

How hard is it to start class action settlement (similar to recent Oil Gel Settlement)?
Anybody know any good lawyers?

I filed my complaint like thomas1 mentioned by claiming that my safety was at risk, which it was being as I was on a one lane road and there were cars behind me when all of a sudden with no warning, the vehicle would not accelerate. The agent said that the more people that file the complaint, the better the chance that they investigate. You can also file complaints from failures that happened years ago, it doesn't have to be recent.

I'm truly disappointed with Lexus and will most likely get rid of mine.
