Default Sat Nav Wiring

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have a diagram of the wiring of the dvd navigation unit in the trunk next to the spare wheel.

Trying to find a mute wire for my handsfree kit and read there may be one located there.

Its a 2001 model by the way.

Thanks

John

There are multiple mute points in the audio system on a U.S. model but it is hard to say if the U.K. and U.S. models are the same.

If U.K. models are pre-wired for phones, I suggest you check to see if there is a phone connector with a mute point under the center console. On my U.S. spec 2000 LS400, an OEM phone connector under the left side of the center console has a mute terminal. All I had to do was plug the phone kit's mute wire into it and secure it with a wire tie.

Thanks for that, I'm gonna take a look at it this weekend.

Cheers

Managed to find the correct wire for the mute (had to strip most of the rear to get to the amplifier) - the mute and handsfree kit worked perfect while I was testing it.

My next problem is how do I run the wire from the rear of the car (where the amplifer is) to the front inside the center console - whats the easiest route?!

Thanks

John

In my 00 LS, I ran a cable from the right side of the boot to the front center console by popping off the right side door sills and placing the cable in a channel with existing wires. The most difficult part was routing the cable above the glove box on my LHD car.

I imagine you could do something similar on your RHD RX either on the right or left side. The door sills on Toyota products are very easy to remove -- just give them a tug upwards, but it is probably safer to use a trim removal tool. To reinstall, press the sill back into place.

You could probably also run the cable straight forward under the carpeting -- I did this on a 1990 LS but it was more difficult than running a cable under the door sills on my 2000 LS.

Thanks again for your help - got the wires routed through the door sills, it didn't actually take much effort.

Got the bluetooth kit (Motorola IHF1000) fully installed now with full muting (which all the installers over here said was impossible!) its pretty good and goes well with the interior.

Microphone installed next to the rear view mirror:

Next I'm going to get a vais ipod adaptor, then fit some RX330 wheels and might finish off with a reverse camera that works with the sat nav screen.
