Default New Owner Of Lexus Rx 300 (2002)

Hey guys,

I live in Canada and I just bought (this evening) a used Lexus 2002 RX 300 for 18,000 USD.
I took it for a ride and just fell in love with the car immediatelly.

This is the car if you want to see it:
http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/detai...8&adid=6308176

Sorry if my questions will sound lame, but I am really new to this type of car...

Anyhow, this being 2002 model with 120,000 km (74,500 miles) on the engine, how many miles (km) I can expect the engine last for?
I saw some cars on the market with higher millage, but can someone tell me how do these engine perform?
Can I expect it to work fine for another 100k miles lets say?

I hear about the transmission problems and my question is, if I in any danger of transmission replacement with 75k miles on it?

What other problems I can expect with 2002 model?

Is there any way to buy a navigation GPS system for this car? Something which would actually look good after an installation?

Also can someone guess a resale value lets say 3 years from now, with approx. 125k miles on it?

Sorry I have a lot of question, but I am just so excited about the car

Thanks a lot.

Joe

Welcome to CL!
Congratulations on your new car! You will love it.

Your 1MZ-FE engine is covered under warranty against Oil Sludge until 2010 (8 years). Mine died at 150,000 miles. I had to replace the whole thing.

I hear about the transmission problems and my question is, if I in any danger of transmission replacement with 75k miles on it?
I looked at your VIN number. You have AWD. If the transmission has never been replaced, based on our pull, the chance the transmission will fail within next 100,000 miles is ~25%.

What other problems I can expect with 2002 model?
Nothing major, but you will have to do maintenance on MAF, IACV, A/F sensors and will be mad that rear gates opens too slowly, and will hate your turning radius.
Is there any way to buy a navigation GPS system for this car? Something which would actually look good after an installation?
Not really. Actually you can, but it will be expensive.

I cannot answer this question. I don't live in Canada, yet. Will see, when I move to Toronto.
Sorry I have a lot of question, but I am just so excited about the car

Thanks a lot.

Hi Joe! Welcome to CL! You're going to love the RX, and yours looks really nice. I put about 65K on one and I hated to let it go back to the leasing company, but when I signed on I was new to Lexus and did not realize how well they stood up to moderately heavy use. The next one, a 330, I kept.

Meetya makes a number of good points, although we cannot predict the failure of any component, there are folks on this forum pushing 200K MILES on their RX with no significant problems. In addition to being largely random, failures have to do with how well the vehicle is treated and serviced. With some cars, 75K miles is worn out, but fortunately for you, your Lexus is just coming into the prime of its life. Barring the unforseen, you should get quite a few years' service out of it.

To get started, if you haven't already, read through the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum. There's a lot of good information in there specific to your car, and a wealth of experience to be found with a little judicious use of the ADVANCED search function at the top of this page. Here you have access to some of the best (and some of the dumbest, too) experience of the RX community.

Welcome to the CL family!

I am picking up the car from dealership in about 2 hours and simply can't wait for it.
Once again, thanks for a warm welcome, you'll see more of me here

Sorry for the late response (was out buying things for my RX300) but I also want to welcome you to Club Lexus.

Meety answered your questions extremely well.

Main thing to keep in mind is to change the tranny fluid regularly. For me this is at least every 15,000 miles (3 drain and fills over 3 weeks), though you will find a very good sticky thread done by TunedRX300 about the proper way to do a drain and fill on our vehicles.

Keep the questions coming and we will do our best to answer them, that is what we are here for.

This one didn't even had them installed. Not sure if previous owner took it down or if they didn't sell them here in Canada with such options...
Hard to say.

I have a 2002 RX300 too, and the roof rack, tail (spoiler), and sunroof were all options that year. They were probably all offered in Canada.

As one who has been through the oil sludge issue, my recomendation is to save every oil change receipt and perform this service as per the manual if not more often. The wife and I are still huge Lexus fans even though her engine siezed at 104K. Her RX is still in the family and will remain so until the day we decide to pull the trigger on a GX. Welcome to CL

I've seen some models with it and we really liked it, but then I read, many people were not happy with the noise roof rack made while driving and were getting rid of it, plus how often one really needs this? So we decided to not to be too picky...

I bought the same car (different color) last March.
120k miles for $13,000 U.S.

There are five 1999 models(3 years older) currently for sale with 125k miles the average price is $12,500.

So if this one is 18k for 78k miles, it could be around 10-12 in 3 years.
That is not so bad.
Anyhow, I've made my first 100km on it and so far I love it.
