Rear Bumper Mat
I've noted pix of rear bumpers with what appears to be a protective rubber matt on the top. Is that standard equipment or accessory? Is it OEM or non OEM supply?
Thanks

Out of Warranty
That mat was OEM on 2001 and onward RX 300's. It is available from Lexus as a part - check with your dealer. A similar part was available for the Toyota van - minus the Lexus logo. I believe either will work, but again, check with your dealer.
I had a "golden pearl" 2000 RX 300, and thought the black mat was rather ugly, but had already developed a solution. Several of the aftermarket vendors of a 3M product variously known as Xpel, Stongard, etc. offer a pre-cut piece that will cover the top of the bumper with a clear vinyl sheet. It applies like window tint or a big decal, and if you follow the directions you can easily DIY it in an hour or less.
The finished product is all but invisible, and by installing it yourself you can "cheat" it about an inch to the rear to provide the edge of the bumper with protection (from someone leaning stuff up against it). It may not be quite as rugged as that ugly doormat, but mine lasted over three years in regular service.

Since I have 99 RX it does not come with one.
Personally, I dislike the looks of it, but there is practical advantage. I opted not to get one and after years, I have only one scratch. If it develops too many, I might put the rubber piece and hide it.
Lil4x solution is nice. My experience with similar product was ... wax build-up around the edge ... which is not the products fault .... I put wax more often then necessary and failed to take it off.

My 99 also did not come with one. I later bought one to help cover up part of some paint chipping I had, but eventually my uncle and I decided to paint the lower panels black and the rest is history.
The one Lil4X mentions as being from a Toyota van is the one from the previous generation Toyota Sienna. Only difference with this one versus the one offered by Lexus is it doesn't curl around the edge on to the back of the bumper, but that Sienna one doesn't have the Lexus name emblazoned on it.

The protective black rubber for the top of the rear bumper was standard equipment starting from I think the 2001 model year on the RX300. It was optional the first two years. I believe it is still an available part, and some on this forum have used a similar Toyota part from the Toyota minivan, which is basically the same, doesn't have any logo, and is less expensive. If you do a search of this forum, you'll find additional information.

Try sending an email to either Sewell Lexus or Carson's, both are CL approved vendors. They respond quickly.

i called Carson Toyota and they could not find it...they said they had a TRD version for $140. Then I called Lexus of Reno and they quoted me at 107.64 w/o tax. so i went to irontoad.com and found it for $68.95..

I got mine from Irontoad a few years back. Quick and easy 3M tape all around, has held on tight for almost three years now. Make sure you super clean the surface and "alcohol" rub it down to remove any wax or grit on the surface. Enjoy, I have many times when I go to the airport and load/offload things.

Got one from Lexux for $104.00 plus the governer's share. It actually rolls over the curve from horizontal to vertical and that curve was where the dings live. So, I'll be cleaning and sticking the plastic cover this weekend.
