The filter used by hitthepin is K&N HP-2009, which is one of the best and more expensive one. I am using Mobil 1 equivalent, and have bought two Napa Gold extra sized equivalent filters.
K&N has rolled thread, that reduces the chance that metal piece comes from the filter thread. I would not be concerned since there is only one.

Normally, I use the K&N HP-1002 but since the oversize is the same price, I going to use the HP-2009 from now on.
I'm sure the M1 and Napa filters are just as good quality, but I spoiled myself with the 1" nutt. Makes its much easier to get on and off.

I think it is uses the same size filter, even on the 4.7 L, http://www.knfilters.com/search/appl...x?Prod=HP-1002
The one I have been using is the HP-2009 (shown below), http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=HP-2009
A lot of Tacoma owners having going to this same oversized filter.

I might be able to stop by Toyota dealer I have here and see as they sell now the Tundra in the 4.0 and 4.7 for the first time in Mexico. I don't have too much space with the HP-2009 as it is, though it does fit as shown below where the top of it sticks out.

Ok then. Where do I get that Auto-Rx? I was going to use the 5 minute engine flush. I have 96K miles and have no clue of it's history. Is the auto rx available at a local shop or just through their website? I have always used mobil 1 but lately been using amsoil. I was thinking of using amsoil for the RX but since I'll do so frequent changes, might just stick to mobil 1 or something similar.

AutoRX is a product that my uncle has used down here with great success. We have to have a friend bring it down due to import restrictions.
However, only place where you can get it is their website. http://www.auto-rx.com
As far as Amsoil, I met a U.S. Embassy employee last year who had a 2001 RX300 down here who brought down enough Amsoil 5W30 to use in his vehicle and was quite loyalt to that oil.

I have used amsoil in my Stang pushing over 600 horses to the ground and I've been impressed. Not to mention the 15K miles interval, but, given the history of these engines, I don't think I want to trust it on it. Unless someone here testifies to it.

You want to shorten oil change intervals on these xmz-fe engines. I have done Used Oil Analysis on my RX and the most I could get is 7000 miles from true synthetic German Castrol. Amsoil may last longer (depends on what product), but no one has tested it to give you a scientific answer.

Hey autozone has the german castrol synthetic for $25.99 with a free Mobil one filter of your choice. includes 5 qts. Time to buy, you save around $17 over the normal price....

I changed oil today and put three oversized filters for the RX300 side by side. Filter was clean and no more sludge fine particles left from my Auto-RX treatments two oil changes ago.

TunedRX, how do you like that M1 oversize filter compared to the K&N? Better, worse or about the same?
Went to Autozone and bought the GC w/ M1 filter deal. I noticed the M1 filter had some glue that was dried inside of it on the threads. It looked like poor quality control(probably just a bad one). They didn't have another one, so they let me swap it with a K&N and I paid the 1 dollar difference.

While both M1 and K&N are designed by Champion Labs, the filter media is different: K&N has better flow and M1 has higher filtering effeciency. Good to check the thread.
I am trying Napa Gold 1516 right now, so far pretty good. When I used up all the regular sized FRAM 3614 equivalent filters, oversized filters are the only ones I will use - a lot better flow and storage capacity for a small premium (M1 209 cost the same as M1 109)

Right, I did check the thread but most of it was regarding oil and the Fram XG filter you posted pic's of. You mentioned M1 filters prior but didn't share any experiences using them until recent. Since you cut open a lot of your used filters, I figured maybe there was additional info to learn regarding the M1's.
I was mostly asking cause the M1 I returned because of the glue issue(again, probably a 1-off situation), made me curious to whether the internals of the M1 doesn't stack up to the K&N.
