Default heat shield

i made a heat shield using 24"x24" 26GA steel sheet, self adhesive duct insulation, and foil tape. which all can be purchased at a home improvement store. here are some pics.

That looks good. You shouldn't have to worry about the top too much as my cousin has something similar in his Golf, and the hot air rises so as to avoid more of an issue with it.

thanks lexmex. i was thinking about putting insulation on the inside of the shield, but im not sure if it will help or not.

I would leave it off.

That reminds me of an experiment I did back in late 2004 with putting some insulation inside of the stock airbox (a few weeks before I junked it) and actually this increased the heat inside the box.

i kinda see a lil bit in improved performance. hopefully it will get better after a week or so.

Next week I think I might make a heat shield to cover my y-pipe (that intake piece in the engine bay with the hole on the side...would use a cooking pot. Still debating a bunch of intake designs I want to test out, especially before it gets into the cooler months that will start in late September.
