Call your local Toyota dealership for a tranny service quote. I think you may be surprised at how reasonable it is, and they know the product.

Unless you want to do more, as a DIY it is simpler than changing oil [drain and fill].

Note make sure the new fluid is Toyota Type IV or superior. [Dont confuse it with Dexron]

I would take it to a Toyota mechanic or the dealership. Don't bother going to a transmission shop as this is just routine maintenance. Make sure they use either Toyota T-IV, ExxonMobil 3309, or Amsoil ATF.

There has been some discussion in the past about whether or not to have a transmission flush done rather than periodic drain and refills. I've chosen to do drains and refills, based upon the "horror stories" of transmission failure shortly after having a flush done (presumably because the flush caused debris to get into the works).

I was going to do it myself, but my local dealer (who has serviced our other cars before) suggested a flush. No way would I trust some unknown quick-lube place to do it correctly. I've heard too many horror stories from friends about loose drain plugs, wrong fluids, no fluids, or dishonest work. If you have a shop you trust, use them. Lots of good independent techs are out there, but I figure the Toyota/Lexus dealers will know the ins and outs of their vehicles better than anyone.

If normal maintenance as in "flush and fill" then I'd go with Lexus since if anything is "messed" up, you could go back to the source and resolve the issue directly with Lexus since they did the service. Those "quick lube" places I wouldn't trust to change a tire to be quite frank...

What year is it and how many miles does your vehicle have on it?

I have 2000 RX300 with over 85,000 miles on it and regularly perform a simple drain and refill. I followed the online instructions provided by TUNEDRX300, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=220061
but instead of changing out the filter, I just drain and refill with Toyota Type IV fluid. I purchased the AT fluid at a Toyota dealership for $5.50 a bottle.

I also have taken my RX to an independent mechanic shop which specializes in repairing only Toyota vehicles and they recommended only a drain and refill at a cost of only $65.

Take it to Toyota dealership and get drain and fill.....

keep receipt of maintenance if futuer problems exist... Get drain and fill every 30,000 km (18500 miles) or once a year...

Cost should be about 2x what an oil change is... Cheap insurance for peice of mind....
