Help: Engine stalled when car rolled forward while in Reverse
Hey guys,
I have a 01 RX300 AWD. Over the weekend, I took the car into the mountains. I stopped on a slope, facing downhill. And somehow I shifted into Reverse thinking that I am in "D". The car just rolled forward (thanks for the gravity) while in reverse gear. The engine eventually stalled, and that's when I realized I was in reverse. I restarted the engine, the Check Engine light and the VSC light came on. The next day, the Check Engine and VSC lights were still on. But after driving another 80 miles or so, the Check Engine and VSC lights turned off by themselves. From the dashboard, everything looks normal. And the car drives and feels normal as well.
My question is, should I be concerned about the incident? What could be possibly broken in situation like this?
Thanks in advance for any inputs.

No, I wouldn't be concerned, it's not like you were driving it on a highway at high speed. Most modern vehicles should stall when this occurs.
If you had some grinding noises from the tranny (like the clutch itself), then I would be a bit worried. I think you probably, on the CEL, got at least a crankshaft/camshaft error and possibly a vehicle speed sensor error (since vehicle was on).
Usually, after about 3 ignitions, the CEL should reset itself if nothing else found. However, if you are curious, those CELs should still be in the memory as pending errors and should be able to be read.
I have done some nastier things (like doing front wheel driver emissions with an AWD vehicle) and that was for over 1 minute at high RPMs.
