Smile For mechanical genius's only....idle tweak...

My 2000 RX300 has a small shudder when I'm sitting at a light and the rpm's are at 750. If I place it off load (in neutral), or increase the idle to 800 or more, it smoothes right out. Periodically the rpm goes a bit lower, to 600 rpm, and it's wonderful !!!Anybody know how I might get it to have this lower rpm more often?

Idle is one thing that immensely affects the pollution and the modern engines have lots of sensors and ecu controls the idle speed. The days of idle-screw that sets idle rpm are gone. Dealerships and responsible workshops do not touch the idle rpm and simply replace sensors to let ecu control it.

I know your question is to find means to lower the rpm but the system is closed loop. If you must then you need to explore changing one or more sensors which signal the ecu in a way that it lowers the rpm.

Hmm, I don't know that having low idle is wonderful, maybe it is something at sea level I have not been used to in a while. I know a few ways to trigger the low idle but they will have other unwanted effects, but having been in a situation where I had a low idle and just in the nick of time got out of the way of a potentially dangerous situation, I'll pass on telling you how to trigger this. Sorry.
