Default It's hip to be square (new resonator)

This time around, I decided to ease up some restriction caused in part by the recent addition of a flex pipe in front of the cat, and of course the resonator after the O2 sensor which was a 3 inch in, 3 inch out single pipe that split into a y.

After looking at Hangar 1 and an exhaust shop near where I worked, my uncle suggested we try Mofles Cuajimalpa. A small group located near where my uncle lives and works. And that is where we started our day yesterday.

Now, this wasn't the ultimate victor, but I want to show you something. This is a style of muffler I had looked at Hangar 1 and at the other place by where I work. Pretty, but there is a problem.

Now you can see it is a 1 in, 2 out muffler, but notice where the muffler divides inside...not at the beginning.

Taking a further look, see how far in the separation begins?

The separation by my judgment begins right about here where my finger is...that is unacceptable.

What I need was the flow to be split as soon as possible, so that I can remove the restriction I had with the earlier resonator. Granted, they are mufflers as far as what I use, but they'd do the job.

Well, like that old Huey Lewis and the News song, I'd though it be hip to be square for once.

The winner was this Supreme Performance Vortex muffler, model number 88106, http://www.supremeperformance.com/DisplayTab.aspx?tid=2

Now some sites show this has a 2.25 entry and twin 2.25 exist, but by our measurements it was 2.5 entry on both. This weighs 17 pounds and is about 17 inches in length. Width is a little over 10 inches and height is just over 4 inches. It really did not feel like it weighed more than the previous resonator (probably due to the material used).

In the U.S. they go for about $90 USD, but all of the work and muffler done today cost me $160 USD roughly.

Now, this is the picture of the interior of this muffler on the box. Notice how the split in flow begins immediately. That is what I wanted.

And some shots of the muffler's interior. From the front, notice the split.

And a closer look at the front and its split.

And through this rear exit, you can see light from the front entry.

Now, I can tell you this muffler is quite wide and fitting it was no easy task so as to now hit the propeller shaft since I have an AWD RX. But first task started with removing the old resonator and its y pipe.

And the remains. My uncle actually wanted this piece, but I left it there...good riddance. Told him I would get one that actually works.

Now we are left with this. Those pipes have 2.25 inch diameter all the way back.
