Default Hi, just purchased used 2000 RX 300 AWD

Hello everyone,

I have 3 quick questions that was somewhat bothering me..(plz understand my english skill as it is not my first language)
anyways, I have recently purchased used RX 300 AWD with about 73,000 on.

It was not from Lexus dealershop, rather from a local used car dealers.

The day before we purchased vehicle, we took the car out for a test drive and was very satisfied with it.

So, next day we went in and bought it for $13,100.

When we signed all the papers and took the car, on our way home, we noticed a check engine light. I quickly read through the manual and found out that it could happen when the gas is low or the cab is not closed tight.
we did check the gas and sure it was low, so we filled her up.
Yet, the light still was on and we took it back to the local dealers we purchased and they told us they would take a look at it.

While they were testing, we were waiting in office, so we did not know what they did or what they have checked. But the light did go off and they told me they could not find the problem. (told me it was a unknown code...)

that light still has not come on again..(its been about 1 week)

but 2 other problems showed up and this is what we are concerned more with.

1.

whenever we would start the car, once in a while the airbag lights come on and will stay on while we drive. I read through manual, but not sure what the problem may be. It seems like it happens when we first start the car in the morning. I had to turn the car off and give it a minute or two and would start it back again and the light would be gone.
I am not sure if this is a small problem or something we need to take back.

2.

while driving, whenever we make turn, the wheel make a funny noise.
is it a sign of malfunctioning power steering? or is it natural?? or perhaps the cold weather could play a factor??

sorry guyz, maybe these could be stupid questions to ask, but i am not really a "car" guy.

Please help me with some of these questions.

lastly, 2000 RX 300 with 73,000 for a price of $13,100....a good deal?? my parents are worried about the year and mileage of the car, saying it could be a little too old.

Welcome aboard, the air bag question I do not know, but the steering, do you mean you hear a scrapping noise when you turn the wheel? If so it may just be where the steering column goes through the firewall. A fix may be some silocone spray on that area under the floor mat or from under the car where the steering rack is.

Welcome to Club Lexus.

Thomas1 mentioned what it could be with the steering. I think most of the members here have heard that sound at one time or another, but Thomas1 is correct on his solution.

With the airbag system, there are about 30 errors related to the airbag system (including the side airbags).

The errors are almost always related to the wire harness, the airbag assembly itself or the airbag sensor. Something could be loose and that may just be the reason why sometimes the light stays on and sometimes it doesn't.

The check engine light is part of the OBD2 system. Now, you mentioned they found a code that was not listed. When they said they found an unknown code, I am going to guess they may have found a code like B1xx (with the x meaning a number) and that may have pointed to an airbag error.

I would go back and mention this airbag issue to them and have them scan the codes again. Ask them what code it is, because if it starts like B1xx, chances are it is something related to the airbag.
