Default Navigation "no disk detected" message

While traveling down the interstate a few weeks ago, I noticed when I looked down at my nav. screen (2002 RX300) that I was suddenly traveling in "thin air"...the highway on the screen had disappeared! When I shut off the car a little later to buy gas, upon restarting the car I got the message "no disk detected" on my nav. screen. When I got home, I removed and reinserted the DVD several times to no avail..I still get the "no disk detected" message. The disk is perfectly clean and not scratched. It's an update disk (2004), but had been working well for months.

Is there anything I can do short of purchasing another DVD drive off E-Bay, or be raped by my local Lexus dealer?

The only buttons which work now are AUDIO and INFO. All other buttons give me an angry double beep, and flash the "no disk" message.
Is the DVD drive repairable? Is it in fact the DVD drive?
I'd be grateful for all reasonable speculation....

I would say its the DVD drive unit it self and not the Map DVD. Try using a DVD lens cleaner then if it does not work still, Shoot a pm to Lexusaudio he might have some to sell to you for way cheaper than Lexus dealer.

It is the little motor that drives the laser beam 'sled' in the unit itself that has burned out. I just replaced the motor in my dads RX300 which had the same problem. Works fine now... I am an expert at it now PM me if you need assistance with this.
