Cool Sticky accelerator

My Rx300 has developed a sticky accelerator. By this I mean it sticks shut. When you come to a stop and then hit the accelerator to go again its hard to depress at first and then it fine once you are rolling. It only does it when the throttle is fully closed and then re-opened again.

I have applied WD-40 to the throttle assembly hoping this would help but it hasn't.

Any thoughts????

Are there any frays? Check both ends throttle and pedal.

What about the pedal itself? Carpet in the way or hinge needs lube?

WD40 is a great product but it is not a good lube (it removes the lubricant and build up). Use it to clean, but at the end wipe dry and add a thin layer of silicon grease.

I have checked the cable from the pedal hinge to the throttle body all looks good. I agree WD-40 is not the answer for lubrication but should help release any grime or dirt and have some short term affect.
I am starting to believe it's internal to the throttle body. This car did sit for 2 months with being driven or started and was fine before that period. When I started driving again is when I started to notice the issue.

My first thought was exactly what Salimshah mentioned about the cable.

You might want to try tightening it a bit. Those bolts are 12mm and you have to move it toward the left and that should grab some of the slack. I say this because I had an issue a few years back like this and that also solved the situation. In addition, on the throttle butterflies themselves they can get some gunk at the opening causing some stickiness (due to the crankshaft vent recirculation) and that area should be cleaned (you need to remove the black piece after the air box with the two baffles in order to get at this area).

Thanks! I thought of taking out the slack but wasn't sure this would do anything for me. I will do this tonight.
The black piece, are you talking about the boot? And what would you recommend using for a cleaner?

Great pic's Thanks again

The make a intake manifold spray cleaner, sold at parts stores. Safe for the catalytic converter etc.

The black piece is the one just to the right of the throttle body in the photo above and loosening those two screws will allow you to get the throttle body butterflies in order to clean them (see photo below for what it should look like after you get that piece off).

Thomas1 is right to use an intake cleaner. I use a generic carburator cleaner sold down here.
