Default Serpentine Belt change

I had my local mechanic change the serpentine belt on RX300 because it was occasionally chirping. Well, it now squeals like a stuck pig when engine is cold. Mechanic tightened the belt after a week (but said, "tightened not too much"). He said that he'd warrantee the new belt and replace it... but, is there something he's missing? I've had belts changed on other cars, but never with this effect.

Welcome to the Club.

That's happens a lot with a new belt on these vehicles. There is a belt dressing that can be used and my favorite is the one from Valvoline, http://www.valvoline.com/pages/produ...asp?product=32

If he overtightened the belt and is taking responsibility for it, let him change it. Too much belt tension can wreak havoc on bearings in your alternator, PS pump, and AC compressor. Lexmex's suggestion for belt dressing is a good one - those belts can squeak in cold, dry weather. Apply according to directions - it doesn't take much to do the job.
