never noticed any unusual sounds coming from the transmission. shifting was always smooth wth no hesitation. we never towed anything, and as a matter of fact, most of the miles were highway miles.
this came on so quick. all of the sudden it just wouldn't move out of R. no warning lights or noises. eventually after a couple of tries it lurched out of R, but only after i hit the gas. but it didn't happen all the time. when the wife went to work yesterday morning and backed out of the garage, it was fine, but noticed it stuck again when she tried to leave work.
i'm really not a car expert, but i can't seem to think it's anything else but a transmission??

just got the word from the dealer that the tranny is shot. lexus has agreed to help with 50% of the total cost. wish it was bit more, but at least they stepped up to the plate to help a loyal customer....

Usually the culprit is the Planetary gear. (only heard this from three people) the rest have no idea, just broke.

If I may chime in here....

The trani on my Rx300 AWD was rebuilt by a Toyota Dealer's Master Tech and Lexus Canada came through with 50% of the cost of the rebuild also do to my loyalty to the brand.

I too was reluctant to get the trani rebuilt.... However, after about 15000 miles on the rebuild I can honestly say that if runs better than when I first bought it with 40,000 miles.

Now has 110,000 miles.
Rebuilt when done right is no reason to be concerned.

What was the total price of the replacement? After your 50% off.

Also how long/miles is the warranty for the rebuilt tranny they put in?

final bill is $2500 after the 50% off.
called lexus of america today and filed a complaint about the transmission. i'm supposed to hear back from them within a couple of days. to be quite honest, i expected a little better than 50%. i don't believe the dealer involved corporate, so the 50% off was their good will. i'm hoping corporate comes through with a little more assistance....

Lexus corporate if they decide to give you the time of day....will request a copy of the repair invoice... I guarantee you that once they see you have already obtained a discount, they will walk away stating out of warranty and therefore its expected that repairs costs should be borne by the owner.

Boy do I agree with that, I hope otherwise, but they quite frankly dont give a hoot about you after you purchase the vehicle. Corporate sucks big time.

$2500 is hefty even with 50% off. So the dealer charges 5 grand to replace the tranny if so it better be BRAND NEW.

My dad is a mechanic and he could do it for $1800 tops.

Dont forget to file a complaint with the NHTSA online, you will need your vin #. I am hoping someday that Lexus will get enough complaints that the government will ask them whats up. They have a complaint column on the left side of the page.
