unfortunately the chicago area is not cheap.
i called a few other tranny shops and they were around 3-4k, refurbished. considering that, i gues i should be happy with $2500.
i'm not holding my breath with corporate, but thought i'd give it a try anyway...

For the record the service manual calls for 21 hours on a trani rebuild for rx300 awd and I know the overhaul kit is $795 CAD...

When you add all that up combined with fluid and misc other costs (the customer incurrs) you get more than $1800.

BTW my previous response on Lexus Corporate not giving wifesrx300 a second thought, was not with the intent that Lexus provides second rate customer service... Quite the contrary.

I own another luxury brand and can attest that other brands (see my signature) would have sent me pounding sand a long time ago... regardless of my well thought-out and prepared letter. Stating from first hand experience... ie: random pixels missing in instrument cluster resulting from well documented defect due to soldering flaw...

So yes your vehicle failed...like most mechanical things do, just be happy you weren't driving another brand..., where your complaint at the dealer for an out of warranty repair would have gone with an arrogant comment like "what did you expect..?"

I will follow up on Fern's comment about something, be glad you are in the U.S. or Canada.

In Mexico, the dealers or agencies (agencias in Spanish) are among the most ignorant bastards you will meet. Something goes wrong, first step in their playbook is to deny anything at all, not even blame you. They will just simply repeat like a parrot, "lo siento, la garantia no cubre eso" or "sorry, the warranty does not cover that". The legal process is so drawn out here, you will likely never see $$$. I have rarely heard of anything so much as a recall down here and usually have to let my Mexican friends know so they can push their dealer, because they won't do a thing otherwise.

Glad Lexus dealership absorbed part of the cost.

Keep in mind price/cost it is a vicious circle, in which the control is in this order dealership, Manufacturer and lastly the consumer.

So what ever happens the consumers at the end will suckup the cost, which includes the good-will [it will be distributed among the customer base].

All this may sound like a fatalistic approach, but it is closer to reality. Only in very few cases do the dealer (typically negligence) or manufacturer (reputation) end up suffering, and typically it is when the courts step in. [This is what each would protect fiercely and keep passing the costs to the consumers]

I just heard back from Lexus of AMerica today and they agreed to send me a check to cover my portion of the transmission replacement cost. I really didn't expect them to cover all or any of the cost, but they did. So the dealer came through with 40%, and corporate for the remaining 60%.

That is excellent news...

I wonder tho, why a dealership is contributing to out of warranty repairs
Co-incidentally was this the same dealership that all the past service had been done at? I have never heard of a dealer contributing to out of warranty repairs unless they did something wrong in the first place...

They usually pass you off to corporate.

Makes you think, doesn't it?

This is the same dealership I bought the car from, and where I get all of my service done. Like I said, I also had all the tranny fluid changes done every 15K mi.

Thats why they covered it,to try and keep you a loyal customer. And you did your part by taking it to them, for service/repairs.otherwise,you would have been up the preverbial creek.
