Hello, I am new to this site, even though my 1999 Lexus RX is nearing the 25-year mark, with approximately 125,000 miles. This is a testament to how few issues I have had along the way. I have tried to adhere to required maintenance schedules, and other minor issues like replace struts on hatch, etc. Here is my question: I have ordered a new Toyota SUV which I hope to receive soon. My family has a second home in an adjacent state. Instead of selling this still-performing car that looks/acts years younger (kinda like me???!!!), should I relocate my Lex to the neighboring state, after an exhaustive review of her condition, to use instead of a rental during these 3-4 trips per year? My previous hesitation was over possible battery drain, but have learned that you can now attach a "battery disconnect switch" to alleviate drain. On that note...do harsh winter conditions still affect a battery on a car housed outside, even if it's detached? I apologize in advance for so many questions!

In your place I would prefer to use a battery tender. That said, it's hard to say if this is a good idea. I believe cars like to be used regularly. Letting it sit the rotors will have a corrosion film, the fluids don't circulate, tires get flat spots, etc. It's also costing you in insurance and registration fees.

I have a 1999 RX300, I purchased it from a family member with 110,000 miles on it. I now have 250,335 on it and looking to get 300k out of it. I change oil myself every 3000K miles. I have had a complete tune up done about 70,000 miles ago; timing belt, water pump, thermostat, plugs and ignition coils. That was for my own peace of mind. I just change break fluid and this spring I will do another engine coolant change and tranny flush, but again, that is my own peace of mind in doing so. I just changed the OCV (solenoid) as my check engine light was on (codeP1354) and car is running just fine again.
I could do many minor things to car such as; seat belt does not coil back, arm rest is worn out, slight rip in drivers seat, and my license plate lamp is out (screws are stripped and rusted). The car runs great!!! I take it on 300 - 400 mile road trips with no worries. I used to say my 1988 Honda Accord was the best car I ever owned, but this car is the best for sure.

All of these anecdotes about high-mileage RX300s are truly awe-inspiring! About 3 months ago, I took delivery of a 2023 Toyota Venza XLE. It's a beautiful car -- I'm stilll learning some of the "finer points" and reading the owner's manual along the way. About a week after I received it, I sold my 1999 Lexus RX300 to Car-Max and received what a I viewed as a very respectable amount for it. It was difficult parting with Lex, but I knew that it was time, and I let her go. To everyone with an older-model RX300 -- enjoy your "golden years" with this most excellent car!
