How to connect a switch

hey i used to have a switch turn on my amp for the sub but now the switch is not working any more. for some reason it is not turning on. do you think i should change the switch or rewire the amp somewhere else, if so which wire should i connect it to? :S. and if i get a switch isntead how to i isntall it like do i connect it to the battery or what :S.

Start by checking the switch and 12v at the switch.
If you want to install a new switch, you need to pickup 12v when the head-unit is on. Failing that you need to connect to ACC power (this is on when your key is in ACC or run positon... It must be OFF when starter is engaged). Since most of the places that you can tap into for ACC power are limited in current carrying capacity, they are used as as relay energizer and you add a thick wire from the battery to the relay and on the amp.

hmm i had a switch installed already in the car from the previous owners so it has three wires i think its has the acc thing on it. so can i just buy another switch and see if it works or not? or do you think its something elses fault? if i don't use a swtich can i just plug the amp wire to the power antenna black and red stripe wire?

If things were working before, then mark the wires as they go in the switch, remove the switch and see with an ohm-meter that it is good or bad. If the switch is good then you need the voltmeter to trace why you are not getting the voltage.
A swap of switch is simply hit and trial method. If you take the switch to radio-shack on of the enthusiast may be able to check it out for you and sell you a replacement if they carry.

ok thanks for the fast response i am going to my local canadian tire right now to test out the switch and if thats faulty than i'll just buy a new one, i hope its the switch i don't wana do all that wiring lol
