Congradulation on the new ride! I Love mine too. Glad to hear that you like the Lexus better than the BMW, Porshe and Corvette, makes me smile. Hang around, hopefully we can get more posts on the RX board.

Congratulations on your new Lexus, and welcome to the club!
I see you chose the white. Isn't it just the best white you've ever seen - It's like a pearl.
Hope you enjoy your car, and look forward to many years of trouble-free driving....

Congratulations on your new purchase. White is definitely one of its better colors but have you ever considered painting the bottom half of the car to match with the rest?? I saw a white RX not too long ago, painted with the aforesaid setup and it was a jawdropper. I've seen a few all blacked out RX's but this was a first in a light color. Anywho, just a thought for ya if you ever get sick of the exterior and need some refreshing(which we are all guilty of from time to time). enjoy.

I owned a ML430 for a few month... sold it and
bought the '01 RX300. (also tried the crappy X5
before making the decision)
My '01 RX300 is Millenium Silver(all my cars/SUVs are
silver) with the Navigation System Package.
The wood steering wheel/gear shift is simply gorgeous.
Leather interior in black looks really cool also.
I saw a silver RX300 with the lower panels/bumpers
painted silver to match the rest of the car... seems odd
to me, but I agree it would be cool for black and white
RXs.
One thing that really bothers me is the lack of problems
in the RX.... NONE whatsoever... which makes
owning the RX a little boring. No chance to compalin on
this board, don't know the service advisor at all(except
for oil changes).... unlike my previous MB ML430, which
required frequent visits to the dealer for repairs, but
the MB service advisor and I are on first name basis...
Ditto the X5, if you take a look at the BMW forums...
Oh, by the way, I usually only put 14000 miles a year
on my SUVs(on the previous Navigator and ML430)...
I've only owned the '01 RX300 since November... in
less than 5 months, I've managed to put on 13000 miles
which should translate into a little over 30000 miles
annually... !!!!!!!

I'm so glad you are happy with your new RX. I after I bought mine I looked at the new X5 with envy, then I took a closer look. I really feel that the RX is superior - never really considered the ML - don't much care for the styling inside or out. Also, after going to the Atlanta Auto Show a couple weeks ago I came to the conclusion that Lexus IS in fact the BEST vehicle (not to say that others are not great, it is just that the pro's outweight the con's).
You must really like the RX - that is a lot of miles!! Glad to have another RX owner on the board.

Lexus vs. Acura
The Lexus name has been around for quite sometime, and it has brought itself great honor. Though Acura's new MDX may seem better than most SUV's out there, (esp. with more searing capacity) it is still new. I was about to purchase the Acura MDX myself.... did a little research about Acura's service and reliability. Lexus offers greater service and there's more prestige in owning one. I fell in love with the design of the MDX, but something just told me to get the Lexus RX. Don't get me wrong, the Acura is a Formidable opponent to the Lexus. But in the end, for me at least, Lexus rose above all other competitors. Personally, I would wait till they work out the kinks in the Acura... or if there aren't any, until the 2nd or 3rd year of production.

Bought my '01 RX300 w/Nav in November. My previous
two SUVs were the Lincoln Navigator and then the
MB ML430. While shopping, I drove the Acura MDX
several times. It is a very impressive vehicle and comes
very close to the RX300.
However, I'm a rather safety-conscious person and
there are a few cost cutting items on the MDX which
really turned me off. The MDX only comes with a tiny
temporary spare tire, mounted outside under the
vehicle. I got down there and looked and I'm certain
they could have put a full-size identical wheel/tire
there, but chose not to, in order to cut cost. Second,
it is not available with any electronic stability device.
(such as the standard VSC on my RX300, or the ESP
on my previous ML430) I test drove the MDX at full
speed into an off-ramp WITHOUT using brakes and it
was a very scary experience. (did the same while test
driving the RX300 on the same ramp and the electronics
kicked in and I just kept going)
The MDX is not available with HID xenon low-beam
headlights... whereas my RX300 has them included
in the Nav package...
Also, the navigation unit on the MDX allows you to
enter new street/destination/whatever while the
vehicle is in motion. I realize there are many members
who want the same in their RX300(or other Lexus)
navigation units... I don't... because I don't really trust
myself or anyone driving my RX300 to concentrate on
driving...
In addition, the interior of the MDX looks a little cheap
to me... kind of like an Accord. The switches, plastic
trim pieces, and the fake-looking wood trim and low
quality leather.
On the other hand, the MDX does have a better, more
composed ride than the RX300. Probably better
suspension setup, a characterisc of Hondas/Acuras.
I also like the MDX's rear wiper, which is a covered
design. There's more interior room and cargo capacity.
The Bose sound system is also much better than the
standard sound system in my RX300.(couldn't get the
Nakamichi system because I wanted navigation)
As for my opinions on my former ML430... well, I have
only a few kind words for it after only 12 months with it:
a piece a crap... (and I don't even want to repeat what
bad things I have to say about it...) nothing but none-
ending problems....

Thank you for all the replies and it really clears out the pro and con of RX300 and MDX.
My other concern is you can see RX300 everywhere on the road but MDX. RX300 is very popular and it's like you wear the same cloth with someone else. Here comes my other question: I know silversport edition is almost there. When the next generation RX300 will be out?

Yes, there are a LOT more RX300s out there... but
that's not a bad thing, is it? With the new silversport
edition, there are several flavors you can pick from
to suit your personal taste. When the Lincoln Navigator
came out, I was one of the first ones to get one. I liked
it because it was unique... but the novelty wore off in
a few months....
Talk to any current RX300 owner(myself included) and it is almost impossible to hear any compalints. I'm not sure the same can be said for the MDX. It is well engineered, but it suffers from first model year bugs.
I'm guessing the next generation RX will probably
arrive late 2002 or early 2003. It will also depend
on how fast Toyota's new Canadian plant will start
production on the new RXs. I'm hoping they'll
add a V8 or more power to the RX to shave off 1 second
or 2 off the 0-60mph times....
