Is that still drawing some air from the engine compartment? If so it will be warm or hot air defeating the cool air intake...

Yes. That is a key part of the system, because if I stretch one long big tube without having some opening in the engine compartment, it stalls.

Tonight's verdict at the track: adding the filter was a BAD idea. Ran 18.7 fastest time and with two people 19.1. To give you an idea, on my previous air intake system, I ran 19.0 with 3 people in the vehicle once, my dad and his friend. I will work on this a bit tomorrow, as I have an idea, but am dead tired at this point. What's even worse, these times tonight were run in low 50 degree weather.

This little RX ran so lame, even on the highway at full throttle, just a really dull sound, though I will give this filter credit, much better than their Dragon Intake, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84ZcbUQ1qUQ

That sounds really rice IMHO. Remember, I'm used to V8 muscle, hence anything else will sound like a pissed off bumble bee to me...

Fortunately, we have racing this afternoon at 4, so I plan to modify the filter a bit to see if I can get it blowing air this time around.

We raced her again yesterday and best time was 18.6, again pathetic. Rather than modify the filter, I decided to put back in my previous pipe to see if a difference was to be had, and sure enough 18.3 on the first run and later that night before closing the track racked off an 18.1, so the filter stays out.

This is a video I took last night on the same stretch of road,

Now compare it with the sound with the filter,

Sounds very nice with the Weapon-R V2. More like a deeper roar.

I might have, but then again the Restore may have taken care of that. I did have an issue with the compression for sure with my piston rings, but that Liqui Moly product cleared that up. However, I just couldn't stand the loss of power. It was like blow-by, you step on the gas and go nowhere. In fact as I was going out to the track, and I hit the accelerator and it just made a big noise and then took off, that's not what I was expecting.

Right now, it feels good, though the weather is much warmer now. I plan to leave Mexico mid April and will be in Tampa shortly thereafter. On the way up to Laredo, we will be dropping in altitude about 7,000 or so feet and on the way (especially coming out of Monterrey), we will have a long drop and we will see about the P0171 errors that I usually get on the way down. I plan to run the direct pipe and/or possibly disconnect the lower air intake, not quite sure yet, but my father and I will take a look and see approach.

Couldn't find the correct existing thread to ask this but I am just wondering does anybody know the specific Toyota part number for the air filter for our RX300's? I have a K&N currently and I jut cleaned layers of oil off my MAF sensor; I really want to go back to OEM now. I am not sure but I have heard of Toyota dealerships rejecting Lexus customers due to some type of issue, so I wanted to be sure I walked into Toyota knowing the part number on hand. Anybody have it? Thanks in advance.
