Default German Castrol

Gave the RX an oil change today and put German Castrol in for the first time. So, we'll see how it goes.

I have been running it for the last two oil changes, 149k miles on my RX.
No problems so far, 0-30, use to run 5-30 Mobil 1.... Autozone by the way gets some hot deals on this oil... Last promotion was 5 qts and a Mobile 1 oil filter for $25.99...

Hope you enjoy the GC, I am about ready to go back to it from the Redline 10W40, though I may be doing my next oil change north of the border, will keep you all posted.

I am already stocked up on GC, and will buy more after I use up the Mobil 1 SL oil.
It seems Autozone is putting this great oil on the shelf, contratry to the rumor last year that it will stop carrying it.

Part of the reason I switched was to go longer intervals between changes. I've been fairly religous about changing every 3000-3500 miles using Mobil 1 Syn, but would like to go ~5000miles. I'm considering having the oil tested after 5K.

I did pick up 2 of the Autozone's 5qts Castrol and M1 filter deal. Right now the deal is 24.99 but its with a Fram filter. Still a good price even you decide not to use the filter cause per qt the GC is $6 and change.

lexus114, yes, it is the "Made in Germany" oil. If the oil works well, I hope Autozone continues to stock it.

I gave a few BMW dealers here a call in the past 30 minutes (since that is the only source for German Castrol) and I was surprised that everyone of them was out of the oil, even had another friend call and ask. Finally, one service guy told me so many people were coming in and buying it. I probably should have shut my mouth up as I blabbed about this oil on a few of the local car forums down here, but glad to see someone else also took notice.

Well if you do end up moving to the US(Florida), I'll gladly send you some.

Hopefully, more people will use it and stores will keep this oil on the shelf.

Well, what concerns me is,Our engines call for 5w-30.how will that effect performance,I know you should always go with the lowest vis.oil your engine will run.Due to max. torque, mpg etc.How is this 0w-30 with what I just mentioned?

Well, I plan on going to the Tampa area, so we will see if it is in stores. When I was in Washington, DC for Chrismtmas, I didn't see any at AutoZone and even asked, but I am fully aware people are finding it.

I had those concerns too, but after reading the weatlh of information here regarding the "true" weight of GC compared to the Mobil 1 5w-30(and other oils), it made sense eough to give it a go.

I also spent some time on the "bob the oil guy" site doing some research. Very educational.

You probably won't notice much difference between 0W and 5W all else being equal, but the real difference of this oil is that the Castrol 0W30 feels heavier than a 5W30 of say Mobil 1. However, this isn't bad, the Castrol hold up much longer in its composition and doesn't have the effects of oil shearing so much as that of other oils (wherein a 30 turns into a 23 after time). I particularly liked the German Castrol, because I never had a smoother start than with that particular oil, even the 0W40 Mobil 1, which I consider was the best of the Mobil 1 series I tried.

They used to make a 0W30 stateside, but every 0W30 I have since seen has been made in Germany, you can note this on the bottle.
