I just want you guys to know,I`m not to proud to admit when I`m wrong.I just posted another thread this morning re;SEAFOAM.What I didnt mention was, when I had the air box apart to get to the intake inlets,I took my M.A.F sensor out,(I just cleaned this thing last october) and it had an oil film on it.I`m asuming it is from the k&n filter. This filter has only been in since last october,5 mos. So,I reinstalled my factory type (puralator)filter, and am not planing on returning to the K&N untill I inspect the M.A.F in another 6 mos.If it looks good, then I have to agree with others on this board, and not use a k&n filter on vehicles that use m.a.f sensors.Or even an air temp sensor(wich some vehicles use now instead of a m.a.f)
So far it runs just as well, maybe a little difference pulling hills. But no big deal.I would rather not have to replace the m.a.f over a filter.

That is why when I used to use a K&N panel way back when, I used to just coat lightly the front side, not the side facing the MAF. That oil can and will get on that MAF sensor.
I can tell you from not having used an air filter, it might take more than 6 months to notice something, as I usually only show a smudge or two on the red diode after about 3 months.

Just put out over $400.00 for replacement of the MAS due to oil contamination from the K&N filter. Back to the white paper things unless another option comes up. Did note a 1mpg increase in MPG when went to K&N. I'll monitor it for a while and see what I get now.

What I do on my dad's saab is spray the oil on the K&N filter, wait a couple hundred miles and use MAF cleaner on the MAF. This way the oil doesnt get a chance to eat the MAF and its a cheap way to keep things clean.
BTW the rx300 has 160k is it time to change out the MAF?

Legit,I read the directions on the k&n how to re-spray the filter, and they tell you to only spray the outer side of the filter. You have a good recomendation re;cleaning the maf after a few weeks,to keep the oil build up down.As far as replacement,I would suggest having a spare when using a K&N filter. As it probably doesnt hurt to have one on hand. Re; your question of replacing it,if no code,no worry :>

Agreed, no code, don't replace it. I had to replace my MAF sensor last December after it through a P0171 without the usual accompanying P0171 pending code. However, I would take out the MAF and see that the red diode is clean and the two wires inside the MAF are clean (not black) and the silver on the wires visible.

Has anyone with MAF problems blamed on K&N tried to go through K&N's supposed warranty?
http://www.knfilters.com/MAF/massairpledge.htm
Intesting links on that page to their testing of MAF in particular. Since it's on their own site, I take it with a grain of salt but wondering about their "warranty".
