Default Impact Hammering stuck rotors?

Just got the new front Centric rotors in the mail yesterday. Planning on doing it this weekend.

The old rotor is very very likely rusted in nice and tight. Was thinking of using an air impact hammer to hammer it out... that is if using the two screw method should fail.

Anyone have any experience using an air impact hammer to get out stuck rotors?

and btw... are the two screw holes different sizes for the front and rear? I know the fronts are 8 mm.

Studs hold the front rotors. If it is stuck, just soak the studs with liquid wrench or equivalent over night.

I personally prefer rubber mallet.

I thought these are "floating" rotors.
Right now rust in between the rotor and the hub and is holding the rotor in. I agree with salim on the liquid wrench.
Since your replacing rotors...I'd just hammer it out. Not too hard since the hub might get bent.
Screws are 8x1.25 for the rear and front.

Here's what I would do.
Run the screws down enough but not to the point it will strip.
Then pound it with the hammer until you see the rotor moving.
Screw in the bolts more until it stops and repeat the process with the hammer until it comes off.

Hopefully your would just come out if they're not rusted in.

Try the screws first but the red wrench will always break them loose. Just don't over do it an burn up the grease in the wheel bearings. I have had them jump off in my lap with a little heat.

^^ Pyro in the forums...

I love using this on stubborn bolts. I'd rather heat them up than bust it.

Wow. Usually the screws will suffice, even if it is rusted

the screw method works pretty well most of the time. since your'e replacing the rotors anyway, just get a 5 lb sledge and beat them off the hubs. they'll come off. it usually takes onlyabout 5 hits to break them loose. you'll have to rotate the hub and hit it froma nother side though.

The problem with my rear rotors is that rust was eating away the threads of the screw holes... thus using the screws may fail as it will just strip the threads.

I'm afraid the front my suffer the same. Oh yea... stopped by Home Depot... and all the screws they carry are SAE. Couldn't fine Metric. What gives?

make sure on ther rears you retract the parking brake a little bit by turning the adjuster. the rotors won't come off otherwise because of the little lip inside which will be behind the parking brake shoe.

my home depot carries metric bolts.maybe it's another draconian ca law that no metric bolts may be sold for emissions reasons...

Lowes and Home Depot have drawers in which you will find "metric" screws.

Access to adjust the parking brake.
Turn the plug around the 6 o'clock position.
Flat head screwdriver and adjust the star wheel inside.

So it came off eventually right, using the screw?
