Boing boing...boing. My rear hatch (tailgate?) latches down snug, but the car doesn't think so. Every bump or hitting of the brakes hard sounds the warning bell. It's as if its on a hair trigger. Even opening the sunroof at speed exasperates the problem.

I attempted to remove the latch mechanism in hatch (got hung up on the cables to it) reinstalled and it was worse. In fact, the alarm now goes off at some inconvenient point unless it's unlocked.

Another weird thing, with the back stuffed full of travel stuff to the point of requiring a little pushing to close the hatch makes it go away more or less.

Is this a common bug with a common fix?

Ya I Googled every where without luck, except for a listing of the exact problem, only the link to it had nothing to do with it. Great.

There is a lock detection switch that has a 4 pin connector to it in the rear door. pin 1 to 4 should read continuity. The only other thing would be the wiring harness where it pivots at the hinge area, possibly a broken wire intermitantly.
