The remanufactured tranny is done by a clearing house for Lexus, There are no labor charges, just a core and replacement. The Labor should be around $1600 to $1700 for the removeal and installation. It is not brain surgery.

If you can get a re-manufacturer transmission, do it. I learned the hard way what the difference was between rebuilt and re-manufacturer transmissions. If you go to a local shop they will rebuild your transmission. They can't tell you for sure that it is going to work like it should after it's installed. Because they have no way to test it first. A re-manufacturer transmission is put on a testing platform at the factory where it was re-manufacturer. They check and verify that all the functions in it are working according to what is required. Also, most companies that re-manufacturer transmissions are aware of issues that particulate transmissions have. And can a do apply updates or modifications to correct them. Most transmission shops don't have a problem with installing a re-manufacturer transmission. It's less work work for them and they still make money. And transmission re-manufacturers would rather deal with a transmission shop if there is a problem with a re-manufacturer transmission. Than they would with a do it DIY'er. Because they know that their transmission was installed correctly and that personnel that work transmission shops are familiar with transmissions and if something is wrong. It easier to correct the problem because they speak the same language.
I have a 2001 Lexus RX300 that I bought in 2016. It had about 125,000 on it when I bought it. I changed the transmission fluid and filter right after I bought it. It currently has a little over 166,000 miles on it. The only issue I have noticed with the transmission is that. The shift into drive isn't as "crisp" as I believe it should be. It has always seems like is slipping somewhat. I read on a forum thread that Lexus was a ware of this issue. One of the things that they did to mitigate it was to program the ECM to retard the engine timing when it shifted. So it wouldn't be pull as hard making it easier for the transmission to shift.
