I followed the instructions that I found on here to splice into the cd changer Left and Right wires. There were only 5 wires coming out of the cd changer. Maybe this is different than newer models? I had to make an educated guess about which wires were L/R. There were two that were definately power and ground and by themselves in the cd changer plug. I verified them with a meter.
Then there were three that were grouped together on the harness. Two of these were twisted together. These must have been the L/R wires, right?? So I cut them and spliced in my headphone jack wire. Problem is that the head unit will not turn on with those two wires disconnected and the head unit isn't turning over to CD.
Has anyone successfully installed aux input on an older model RX300? Anyone have wiring diagrams for these model car?
Thanks, hope this made sense.
If this picture works, it's kind of 1st grade.... the bundle is circled many times. the top line was with what I guessed was L/R. Maybe a ground? The next line down was either L or R. Same for the 3rd. The bottom two were power and ground, verified with a meter and always on. Not off with the key off.

Please dig through old posts specially on Ipod in .aux-in.
I have explained this that the Lexus system uses differential input L+/L- gnd, R+/R- gnd.
Kludge (which as been tried and deemed acceptable) is to feed the aux in through L+ and R+) while L- & R- as gnd. [Note I never felt comfortable connecting the L- & R- to gnd ,,,, but that is just me].
The other thing I can assure you is that the pre-amp level will be low. You may try the head-phone level with a volume **** controlling the signal level.
Also stay away from the Serial Link Port. Let the head unit think it is talking to the CD player.

Thanks for the reply. But I don't think that I found the LR+/- wires. There are only 5 wires and two are power/gnd. Could the '99 Nakmichi system be different?
Can you send me a link to the post you are talking about? I felt like I found the L/R from the CD player, but as soon as I tapped into them, the head unit wouldn't switch to CD.

Thanks Thomas but I must be missing something fundemental here. I am tapping into the lines coming directly off of the cd changer. Is this the correct place? I'm guessing it is not because it's not working and there are only 5 wires!!!
How do I identify the correct wiring harness to work on?

Read frame 6 on the thread, I do not have the Nakimichi unit, but seems to me the wiring would be the same. According to the post it is the red and white , and green and black wires.... for the left and right channel.

Here is a picture of the cd changer plug. Doesn't match up to what everyone else is seeing. The top two were power and gnd. The grey and pink are a twisted pair. Not sure what brown is.

One plug is for the serial communication link and the other is the audio+control.
Dont mess with the serial link.
