I have not used this specific oil....I use standard Mobil 1 and do 5K changes..

My old porsche boxter recommended 15K changes with Mobil 1 though...

Many European cars have oil coolers. The RX300 doesn't and its engine burns hot in the upper cam area. I'd go 5,000 miles max no matter what oil is used.

Most I would ever go is about 7,000 miles and only on Castrol 0W30, which is what I have in there now, but otherwise 5,000 miles is my rule of thumb as well.

The only truly accurate way to know is to have used oil analysis done, but for most people it is easier and cheaper to just change the oil.
Typically, the oil filter wears out long before the oil needs to be changed. So it may be true that the oil is good for 15K, but if the filter stopped being effective at 7K you will have to change that and put the old oil back in.

With regards to the Porsche oil change interval, it is important to remember that those motors have a very large quantity of oil - something like 12 or 14 quarts if my memory serves me correctly.

Keep in mind that extended oil change intervals will void the warranty (if it hasn't run out). I stay with 5000 mile intervals. The only time I did it differently was with my '92 GMC Typhoon. It required Mobil One and a new filter every three thousand miles according to the owner's manual.

My godfather still has his Typhoon and he is always changing his oil. I always found turbo vehicles just love oil.

Thats because the motor is forced to work harder.Although,I had a 1984 Chrysler Laser, and it didn`t use a drop of oil.Of course I was smart enough to let it idle down a min. or so before shutting it off.(before the turbo timer day`s)

Well, for me and turbo vehicles, the effects were definitely amplified back up in Mexico City. The most common victim of oil disasters were the Chrysler/Dodge turbo vehicles, especially the Spirit and to an extent the Shadow. Had a few track disasters involving oil and those vehicles (people just didn't check the oil levels).

I agree. I have seen in BITOG that xmz-fe owners have reported various oil change intervals, proven by their independent UOA.
My current fill is M1 5w-30 EP and will do an oil analysis with the kit sponsored by hitthepin (thanks) in couple of month since I only have ~3K on the oil. As usual, I will post result for anyone who want to use this oil.

You may want to look into the M1-209 filter as it appears to meet the same spec as the M1-102 but has larger filtering capacity.

Don't forget to add a bit more oil to compensate for the larger filter area.

Regardless of the filter your using remember that if your attempting 15,000 mile intervals... your filter element better be able to handle that long of a stay in the engine... Some of the less expensive filters where the media is paper based, may eventually begin to desolve into your engine.

On my next fill, I'm going to use 5 litres Mobil1 5w30 with Fram XG3600 filter for 8000 km and see how things hold up.

FWIW, I go with 10K mile changes on my wife's '02 and use M1 filters, too.

When Mobil 1 was introduced in the 80's, on the bottle it said it was good for one year or 25,000 miles. That's not a typo. I don't think the filtering systems were up to the challenge, however.

I had my car on 15K changes, but wound up selling it 'cause I just couldn't stand it any longer. Consumed a differential per oil change...which got really old.

Oil analysis is the only way to make absolutely certain you're getting the most out of your oil, but you have to do it only once or twice before you can get a really good idea of how long it's going to last.

The last two cars on which I did long Mobil 1 oil changes, one a '95 Dodge Intrepid w/the 3.5L and an '88 Pontiac Bonneville w/the 3.8L engine, each had well over 100K miles, the Pontiac very near 200K, and neither used any oil. I've been a Mobil 1 convert since my first motorcycle...unit engine/transmission with a wet clutch. Oil hell.

My current beater car, the '89 S-class Mercedes, holds just over 8 quarts of oil for it's 4.2L V-8. I'm using diesel synthetic in it, and will likely go with 15K changes. The oil filter is removable from the top, and you lose -0- oil when doing it...as it should be. I'm not a fan of the whole spin-on canister thing...pretty wasteful, given the options.
