I stopped there to pick up oil & filter and was just curious. I don't trust them even with my '93 ford taurus

Are we talking timing belt, or the acc belt or steering pump belt?

$165 for timing belt seems too low. If indeed it is Tbelt, you got a deal.

Salim- I believe it was $165 less than they quoted. Bill ended up $360. instead of the $525. that they had originally quoted.

That's what I thought. I'l bet there a lot of guys on here that wish that they had gotten that good a deal. I'm glad that I'm able to do my own work (and family). Hate to think of the day when I'm not able to- I'm really fussy about quality of work.

The belt was $47, the balance was labor, 3-4 hours. They said it's a pretty easy job. The water pump and seals looked good. BTW it's an "AAA" shop, 24 month-24000 mile warrranty.

Just had the timing belt done today. Had the water pump replaced as well as the accessory belts. They also replaced two cam seals.

Total was $739.

I thought that was a good deal and got a free tire rotation. The timing belt by itself was priced at $253.43 + cost of belt $57.56 = $310.99.

Made it to 117,000 miles and didn't feel like tempting it any further as I believe it was not done before.

Work was done at TriCounty Toyota in Limerick, PA if anyone needs work done around the Philadelphia area.

why are people here not doing the water pump, seals, etc. at the same time as the t-belt? i know it's not cheap but if and when these other parts fail in the near future, won't it come back to bite you in the end when you have to redo everything?

incidentally i quoted $1200 for everything, including the idler pulleys as well

Check post #30 and #32 on this thread. I took another look at the belt that I took off my DIL's 99RX the other day (changed at 97k mi.) and it looks like it has 20k mi. on it! There is no deterioration or cracking of any kind. All of the idlers and pump were in excellent shape and still were at 120k when I checked them again. That is your reason. You have the choice of replacing them as often as you wish- it's your money. Isn't it great to live in a free country? Well, i see you live in Canada- isn't it great to live in a somewhat free country? LOL
