i have a 2000 lexus rx300 check engine light came on today code is P0420 has something to do with catalyst convertor what does that mean is it expensive to fix please help broke college student here thanks much

 

I assumed you followed my instructions to reset the check engine light first and see if code came up a second time.

This is one of three things. Either a bad main catalytic converter (big one under the car), a bad O2 sensor (sensor just after the cat converter) or temporary condition. The temporary condition can be a result of bad combustion (fuel, bad air) for a brief moment.

Again, please confirm you have reset the light and it came back.

it was reset and came back on they said catalitic is failed what does that mean can i still drive it how much to fix???????????

 

Hi Guys Just To Let You Know I I Had A Problem With My 2000 Rx That It Will Start And Die After Few Seconds.and It Will Only Stay If You Hold On The Gas Pedal.so Asking Around Found Out It Was The Iacv .so Thanks To Lexmex For The Picture Of How To Clean The Iavc It Is Very Simple Just By Using Carb Cleaner Instead Of Taking It To The Dealership That Will Cost You Arm And A Leg.so Guys If You Need Help With The Pictures Just Ask Lexmex.lexmexxx You Are The Best A Million Thanks Again.

 

Did they run a resistance check on the O2 sensor after the cat?

 

the light whent of its been about a week thats good right?????

 

if it says off,yeah thats good.
