I am having a similar problem on the 2000 model. When i go over speed bumps or pot holes, the brake light comes on and the chime dings..and then goes away. I had the 100k mile work done about 3 months back, so it I know my brake fluid isn't low. Any suggestion on what may be the problem? Should I just take the car into the shop and have them look at it.
I also have a problem with the check engine light remaining on...I have had this looked at and the diagnostic comes back clean..even when I have the light manually turned off, it comes back on 3 days later. Any ideas?

Welcome to Club Lexus.
How about looking under the hood and making sure the brake fluid level is near the Max mark? It sure sounds like low brake fluid.
I think I would go to another auto shop when you have the check engine light on, or buy or borrow a OBDII reader yourself. From what I read, it is normal for a trouble code to exist in memory when the check engine light activates.

Welcome to the Club.
That chime dinging might also just be the emergency brake doing that. I have seen that in other cars, but have yet to see it in my RX300.
I'd love to know what the OBD2 code you had was when you had the check engine light. Should still stay in the computer and not clear itself unless prodded.

Interesting. Just for curiosity's sake, I plan to replace the emergency brake light switch (I think it's about $20 or $25) to see if it helps my situation; maybe it would help lbw, too, but I don't know about the check engine light.

I have the same problem with my wife 1999 RX300. She told me it worst in the morning. The brake light would turn on and the chime. Did the brake switch fix the problem?

Sounds like you RX is trying to tell you the brake fluid is low. If it's not low, it is the brake fluid resevoir cap which contains the sensor. Unplug it. If the problem goes away you need a new cap for about $100. This is a common problem on early RXs.

Iceman -- see reply to pm you sent me. Sorry for the delay. The brake switch was fine, my fluid was fine, but the cap was bad. New cap (with sensor) solved the problem. I hadn't heard about the driver door switch. Any luck yet?
