It looks like the belt was not installed right. Do you have any special tips for proper belt installation?
Your sensors should be fine, but the problem here is that you have a problem physically with the timing belt, it's either stretched from use and/or it's skipping teeth on the timing belt. I'd reset the code and see if it comes up again, but I'd also ask as to when the timing belt was last changed. In addition, I can add that hot temperatures CAN, though not likely, on occasion cause this particular issue. I had relatives in northern Mexico who were also mechanics and would get this issue, where the temperatures are much hotter than say Mexico City or even now where I live in Florida. However, this occurred with much older vehicles than I was talking here.
If code still pops up, then you need to have some examine the timing belt itself.
There is another set of codes, 1345 and 1350 that are related to VVT sensors being bad, but this would not be the case with the codes you pulled up.

If I were in your situation I would return to the independent who did my belt explain the situation and see if he will check things out. Even the best mechanics sometimes have problems.

I never touch the belts myself. It's one DIY I actually won't do myself. They have to carefully make sure everything is aligned correctly. I only trust someone like my uncle back in Mexico or some other mechanic who knows these engines specifically and has done the procedure before. To me, it's like fine tuning a musical instrument.

A Toyota mechanic could also work on it. The 1MZFE engine in your RX300 is identical to the one found in the first edition Toyota Highlander.

Hi guys,
I took my RX300 to another mechanic who re-installed the new timing belt; it was one tooth off. Check-engine warning went away and I'm now getting about 18 mpg vs my original 17. Thanks for all the help and advice.
