I'm a sales rep and get in and out of my car 6-7 times per day. I would like to override the auto antenna by adding a manual switch that I could control, putting it up once in the morning and down at night.
Has anybody tried this?
looking online I found this
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE WIRES vs. HOW TO HOOK IT UP: This power antenna has the circuitry to control the basis machine function as follows: What the wires do: The lead that is to conditional power makes the antenna go up and the lead that is connected to constant power makes the antenna go down when the conditional power is interrupted. (This way you understand that you are not concerned about the existing relay and other little devices that are connected to the original antenna motor.)
If this applies to the RX, you could interupt the "allows on" + lead once the antenna is up.

I'm sure you could wire a manual switch, but there are other alternatives to consider:
- Replacing the retractible antenna with a fixed-rod antenna. (More durable, no need to rewire anything]
- Going to XM or Sirius satellite radio [since you sound like you're in your car a lot, hundreds of commercial-free music channels and all sorts of other programming. Input through a cassette adapter and never use the AM/FM antenna again.]

In general description, the head unit sends +12v down the ANTpower wire. There is an oddity to some Lexus/Toyota vehicles. I think SC line has that odd function and not sure about RX. As I recall it uses more than 1 ant-power.
You can get confirmation by asking if a generic ant+motor can be used as a replacement.
If you do manage to hack it, remember to retract the ant before going through car-washes.

Edit;
The head unit in ODD lexus/toyota have 2 wires to activate the antenna. You will have to dig but one solution I have heard is to tie the two outputs and connect the power-antenna to it. I personally hate to short signals without understanding what is going on.
In nutshell if the head unit of RX sends 2 (power) wires to antenna, you may have to do bit more work.
