Default Valve cover

I want to pull the valve cover to check the engine for sludge.

1. Do I need to drain the oil before doing this?

2. I am assuming Toyota gaskets should work - does anyone have a part #?

3. If buying online, is the front cover referred to as "right" or "left"?

4. What is the correct torque for the bolts holding the cover?

Thank you!

1. You don't need to drain the oil. My uncle and I actually did this once and I actually ran the motor to test something out. As you can imagine there was a small, but intended, mess.

2. I didn't replace the gaskets, so wouldn't know part number offhand.

3. Good question! Front cylinder head cover facing toward you is considered Left and the one facing toward the rear of the vehicle is Right.

4. Just so I get this official: Torque 8 n.m (80 kgf.cm, 69 in.lbf)
