suddenly my fuel guage now reads below empty with the light on even though i just filled it. when I turn the ignition on it actualy moves down. Any ideas?
this happened to me when i still had my RX300. in fact, it just gave false readings of whatever. dealer changed the entire instrument panel and i lost 14K miles from my odometer

Thats pretty cool loosing 14,000 miles.I had a 1984 Chrysler Laser XE with the digital dash (loved that car) and when I would go over certain harsh bumps in the road, the display would go out briefly. And every time it would come back on (a matter of seconds) It would show less miles on the odometer.I live in Pa so you can only imagine how many miles less the odometer showed on the vehicle by the time I traded it in.....
Since the tank is 18gal, this would mean you get less than 16-17MPG with mixed driving, which is something I would be worried more about than malfunctioning fuel gauge with today's prices
the culprit might be:
sending unit (float ... dont think they have air tight baloon, the material floats)
wire [battery, display gauge, sending-unit, gnd]
display gauge.
I dont have the book, but typically disconnect the wire from sending unit and shorting it to ground gave the min and max on the gauge. Check the book before you do it as they recommend current limiting resistance.
ha ha. Or every 100 miles to be safe. I switched to "235" tires, which made me lose about 1 mpg city and highway. I'll be going back to "225"s on my next set. Try to get that 1 mpg back. I plan on driving down to Disney World in November, so I'll see what full-highway miileage at 70 mph is going to be. Okay, maybe 75 mph...

I want to also see what you get when you go back to 225s. I plan to run 235 Michelin Crossterrains for one more cycle (bought 2 tires in Mexico, 2 in Florida) and getting 20+ mpg as we speak.

Hey Lex. I won't be switching to the 225 before my Florida trip, but I'll be able to tell you what I get on the 235 atleast on highway only. Trip computer has been telling me my mixed driving is 17.7, but I've done as bad at 16.9. I have no idea what my highway mileage is at this point. I figure no better than 19 mpg.
