Default 2001 RX300 question

My wife has a 01 RX300 with 105000 miles. It is in great condition for an 01'. It needs a new timing belt, not that its having problems, just its recommended to get replaced, otherwise it runs wonderfully. It has the nav, and a few other premium options. I'm new to this forum so if this is a bad question or in the wrong section I apologize. Anyway, I was wondering what the fair market value of this vehicle is. I've looked at kbb, nada, and edmunds and there are a wide range of prices. I live in upstate SC, Greenville. Any estimates would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Having bought my 2002 RX300 new, the fair market value always seems shockingly low to me I'd say roughly $10K-1$12K, as a rough guess. Maybe somewhat more with good maintenance history. You can get some idea looking at eBay auto sales.

I agree with bob, everyone is seeking the smaller vehicles due to the we know what.So any kind of larger vehicle (mid size) suv like our`s is going to take a hit now.thank GOD were not stuck with real behemoth`s like full size GMC Yukon`s etc. Those people thought they were the cat`s meow a few month`s ago, well not anymore.

Actually, KBB and Edmunds prices are pretty useless for SUVs right now (any SUV). You'd probably be lucky to get $5000 for it from a dealer - may be $8000 privately. It's all supply and demand and right now, there's no demand for SUVs.

Maybe next year when the price of gas comes down a bit and people get used to paying $3.00-$3.50 per gallon...................

I agree with the other posters. The RX is not a high fuel mileage vehicle so for now and maybe indefinitely they are not going to bring top dollar. I would suggest keeping the car if you are really happy with it. That is low, not high miles for an '01. you've got a lot of miles left in it. Unless you all of a sudden have to drive a LOT if miles, this kind of time is never a good one to sell a (fuel inefficient) car. Concerning the timing belt- there is a ton posted on the subject and everyone has their opinion, but I have changed it in my DIL's RX and if i had it to do over again I don't think I'd change it till at least 150k- 175k mi. It looked like it had 20k mi. when I changed it at 97k mi. they are an outstanding belt (high quality). This is just my opinion- form your own.

150k for an RX is no problem. Don't take these forum issues as the overall quality of the RX, the 1st gen RX is above fair in reliability. I've seen plenty of 1st gen RX in the 180 range already. Their owners didn't take good care of the body, but they still run fine. I'm only at 108K, but am confident it will get to 200K with little or no major issues like all my other vehicles.

lexus- I'm assuming you mean on the timing belt. If you change at 150k i don't personally think your pressing your luck at all. I would change then but I think you'll be surprised at what the belt looks like even then (good). I am amazed at the quality of the belts that Toyota puts on their cars. (all of them) I changed the belts for the 1st. time on my DIL's 99RX recently. The car was built in Aug., '98 so is just 10 yrs. old and has 120k+ mi. The Alt./AC belt and PS belt showed wear, but only minor and a little bit of fine cracking in the serpentine side. When I changed the timing belt at 97k I couldn't believe what it looked like. Had I gotten a look at the belt 1st., before I purchased the new 1, I would have let it go to 150k. Sleep well!

And your sure it was never changed before? I really do think it is safe to go well into 100k with the Mitsuboshi belt anyway. And Alexus, I agree 100% that the RX is capable of 200k plus, overall (not timing belt)
