Good point, bob2200. In Illinois, unless a passenger vehicle is towing something providing a combined length of 25ft, only front and rear lights are required. But I agree that side marker lights increase visibility and safety, which is probably why Lexus put them there in the first place. For the cost of $20 for two sockets, I should consider that benefit. If any IL drivers have other info, please post. I went off the following state info: (625 ILCS 5/12‑202) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12‑202) Sec. 12‑202. Clearance, identification and side marker lamps.

I had a friend in Texas a few years back who did this and they didn't say a thing, must have looked at them like reflectors since he had removed all 4 bulbs on the corners. Keep in mind, a lot of vehicles out there don't even have these side reflectors. A few of us I know have even disconnected the DRLs.

Thanks so much Lexmex. I've seen your homepage previously and was thoroughly impressed. Kudos on your work and the accompanying documentation. I'm seriously considering your suggestion of removing the bulbs and being done (the body work is a bit much for me right now, albeit I love your look), but what are the chances of a short or blown fuse due to the water that will collect in the assembly? Should I tape something around the old socket before I insert it back in the assembly? I do not like the option of drilling holes in the assembly lense, as some have suggested before.
