i've got 2001 rx300 w 82k (original owner). car starts if i put my foot on gas. car will continue to run until i take foot off gas, the car dies. Any other car, i would think fuel filter. hoping thats not it since changing is a PITA. any ideas?

what can i expect to pay for a fuel filter or a fuel pump replacement?

Common problem. It's your Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) that requires cleaning. Just do a search on this forum for instructions.

same thing happened to my 99 rx300, friend told me that the MAF sensor was probably the cause, replaced it and sure enough went back to normal, i was able to get the sensor for cheaper by looking up the part number and finding a toyota that it was on as well and then requesting one for it, i was still in school and had to go as cheap as possible

I can tell you I have to do this very same process every other month or so because I don't run an air filter. Sometimes I have accumulation, sometimes not, but it always seemed to coincide, at least when I lived in Mexico City, with higher times of contamination in the air and more so toward when I had higher mileage on my oil due to the nature of crankcase ventilation system found on our RX300s.

Another thing I'd run in the gas either a bottle of Chevron's Techron or better yet, Redline's Fuel System Cleaner (Pep Boys is where I have seen this for the most part), but Techron does a pretty good job by itself.

Apart from this, try disconnecting the battery cables for a few minutes to rest the vehicle's computer (I have actually found this to be more effective than the EFI fuse trick we know of).
