My 1999 RX300 has 167K and all original suspension parts. Its time to rebuild. How do I know whether I will need the 'supports' which in the front consists of the 'support, mount plate, and upper seat back;' and in the rear a single part called 'support?'
If you're going to replace the struts, you should replace the strut mounts (rear) and strut mount bearings (fronts). You might get lucky but they had a TSB for failure of these parts in the 99 RX300 so yours are probably bad.

Way to go... 167K. My shocks didn't even get to 100k and had to have them replaced. $1500 job for all four.

Could be wrong on this but I believe the front upper mount plate assy. needs to be replaced. On my DIL's it made a terrible "jarring" noise that you could feel. (felt like a 37 Hudson with no shocks and the muffler dragging). For reasons of critical time constraints I pulled it out (was almost entirely the RF one) and figured a way to repair it so it was about 95% better. I could see with what I had to do to deal with it that it was a bad design (I believe it has been corrected), and next time it starts to make the noise i will replace the mount plate assy.
This was over any kind of a bump.
