how do I know if my RX300's brake pads are worn out? is there a brake-wear indicator light?(my old MB has a yellow light in the dash that lights up when the brakes are worn) or is there some sort of noise that will alert me when the pads are worn out?

There is no brake wear indicator light. I think there is an audible indicator on the front, but not rear, brake pads. It's easy enough to visually check brake pad wear when you rotate tires. You are supposed to rotate tires every 15,000 mi and the pads last maybe 60,000 miles (conservative), so there should be ample opportunity to track wear. (I've got 68,000 miles on my original pads and maybe half life left!).

You should hear some squealing/screeching. I went through pads like Homer goes through donuts, at least when I lived in Mexico, but have been doing just fine with my current pads (well over a year old) given better conditions back in the U.S., especially more oxygen/better cooling.

This was from when did my pads last year and this is way too thin. Keep in mind the inner pads that you can't see wear out faster and the front pads generally wear out quicker than the rears.

The minimum pad thickness is 1 mm (.039 inches).
