I'm assuming the cigarette lighter power receptacles are switched so that you won't use them for portable refrigerators and stuff like that when the engine isn't running, and thus run down the battery. It is a handy feature when you're powering your portable satellite radio receiver from one of these power receptacles.

the cigarette lighter is only active when the key is is the ignition and turned either one click or two, cant remember which but i know this because i have my cell phone charger plugged into it, it even has a red led on it to indicate if it is "hot" or not.

The portable cooler was exactly why I installed the triple outlet (that and cell charger and etc.) and also why I installed the battery saver- so that with it set at 2 hrs. the cooler would stay on but if we forgot it it wouldn't run the battery down. Worked great that way with no worries.

Gave me a good laugh Lexus- I could just see the picture in your mind of the wires connected to the car jack. The outlet in the rear luggage compartment is pretty much standard on SUV's anymore- for whatever you want to power back there.

All 3 cigarette lighters (or power receptacles) are switched on by ignition in the RX300. I have to turn the key to "run" so I can use my air pump, vacuum, etc.

My previous car's was on all the times.

I'd simply over-inflate the tires to 40 psi during storage. Put the car on jacks would be even better.
