I'm assuming the cigarette lighter power receptacles are switched so that you won't use them for portable refrigerators and stuff like that when the engine isn't running, and thus run down the battery. It is a handy feature when you're powering your portable satellite radio receiver from one of these power receptacles.

Cigarette lighter outlets are virtually always hot. I would be surprised if it were ignition operated. My feeling about using a solar charger is that there is virtually NO chance of overcharging or of setting anything on fire. I have read just recently on 1 of the forum sites of a fire started by a trickle charger that developed a short and started a fire.

Gave me a good laugh Lexus- I could just see the picture in your mind of the wires connected to the car jack. The outlet in the rear luggage compartment is pretty much standard on SUV's anymore- for whatever you want to power back there.

All 3 cigarette lighters (or power receptacles) are switched on by ignition in the RX300. I have to turn the key to "run" so I can use my air pump, vacuum, etc.
My previous car's was on all the times.
I'd simply over-inflate the tires to 40 psi during storage. Put the car on jacks would be even better.
